Ken Reed, Lodge Manager
Liz Michaud, Day Manager
Algonquin Park, Ontario, Canada
A Message from the Owner: " Ken and Liz provided much stability to the lodge in 2011 and have succeeded in receiving the most guests ever in one year, about 2000 guests. Their dedication in providing wholesome "comfort" meals and a clean enviornment to so many who are "Disappearing" to this semi-remote Lodge is commendable. In 2011 The Lodge was covering operational costs and half of the mortgage payments. Prices for 2012 have been adjusted lower in some periods to attract more guests and we have implemented a $15 / cabin / night stayed fee, starting April 1st, to be added to each departing guests to cover a new add on: the Algonquin Park Visitor's Pass PLUS. Now you have access to Algonquin Park year round while staying with us. The Pass will be available from 4pm check-in day to 4pm check-out day (so even though you have to check out of the Cabin at 11am you can still use the Pass til 4pm that day - just bring it back). PLUS the fee will also now cover Wood for the Fires, Energy for the A/C's. Both, with the lower rates to increase the number of guests staying with us, and the addtition of this $15 fee, should allow us to cover all of the operational costs and all of the mortgage on this business. Hopefully not too much to ask (since we are not the Government and cannot just tax more).
We think we have found a way to have the Kayaks available to guests again from June 23rd (or earlier if the water warms up faster and is not too fast) to October 13th. We will supply a Key for the Kayak locks and life-jackets at Check-in with a deposit, paddles will be in your Cabin, and the Kayaks will be accessible for you with the Key given on check-in. It will be Self-Serve with the Kayaks, and self lock after each use. The deposit will be given back when you return the key and the jackets at Check-out. Hopefully this will aleviate time so very little help is required from Ken and Liz, except in the office with the key and paperwork and with the jacket fitting. You will, by helping do most of the work, and allow us to keep our costs low which should keep our prices low. Everytime you as the guest and we as the business can find ways to reduce costs for the business it helps keep the business alive for the future, for the benefit of you the guest, the employees and the owner. As the owner it is my intention to ask to have a 10% return on investment, we are currently at 3% which covers 1/2 the mortgage. 10% would allow me keep this Lodge in a perfect state of repair, and hold on to it so that it can be there for you the next time you return. More than 10% and I would give Ken and Liz a bonus, they work all the time, and find ways with your input to give more back to you; perhaps in lower prices, a special offering, more or different food, other?
May we all win as we move through this experience of this Lodge. To your Health and Thanks for being a valued guest!
Thank you for being so Helpful to Ken and Liz.
This is your place to "Disappear" to, find ways to "Connect and Discover"; be it in your partner or in the nature surrounding us here at Algonquin Park. This is a good place for contemplation.
